I hesitated before buying this book. Some of the earlier reviews were lukewarm at best. Nevertheless, I proceeded to buy it and it was money well spent. I have been a fan of David Rodigan for years and have vivid memories of sitting in my living room, recording that famous Sleng Teng clash with Barry G on JBC radio, back in 1985. For anyone with an interest in or any connection to Jamaican music, this is essential reading.

I was so impressed with Rodigan's knowledge of Reggae music.This book was a great history lesson of Jamaica's music and the recording artists. Rodigan's life in Reggae is very entertaining.

Extremely entertaining and informative! Rodders seems like a heck of a guy and I enjoyed very much all the history of reggae that he relates first hand. Fast paced and well written it made waiting at the car repair shop fly by!

If you are a reggae fan or interested in learning more about the music an culture this is a must read.

David Rodigan is my hero and I loved reading about his journey 😊

Not just a biography but a history and the significance of the cross cultural mix and growth of Jamaican music in the UK and Europe. A very enjoyable read indeed.

This book was outstanding. As an adult who is a fan of youth books, I really enjoyed Haymeadow. Set in the ranching country but in modern times, it gives you such a feel for the isolation and beauty of the sheepherders life. This was a subject I have always been curious about, and I look forward to reading other books about the subject. It is amazing to me how one writer can produce adventure books, wilderness survival stories, sea tales, period pieces, stories about indigent peoples, western novels, and even comedies. I have yet to read a book of Gary's I didn't like. I hope he has a sequal. Always been a fan of Gary Paulsen. Once again, two thumbs up. A consistently wonderful story teller, never lacking in vivid detail. So easy to get lost in each adventure.

I like Gary Paulson's books. I like his characters. I like his storylines. I've read so many of these coming of age stories with my nieces and nephews but always enjoy them. The Haymeadow is predictable, teen boy to mountains alone with father's sheep, disaster strikes, teen figures out what to do. Despite that it's a good Paulson story and I'm really glad I read it.

I taught school for over 21 years and have read most of Gary Paulsen's books either with my students or myself. This book follows along with the "Hatchet" theme of boy finds himself alone with all kinds of difficult situations which he must overcome but lacks confidence at first, only to discover that he has "become a man". Fun, easy read.

It was very existing and there where many twists and turns. Pretty cool book. I would recommend it or other books by this author.

As an older reader I loved this book. It made me long for the simple side of life. However, I don't think any of my kids will enjoy it. It is slow, and it should be. It has little action, and so it should be.

My granddaughters loved it.

I make 'natural' stone jewelry, and I had been wanting to be able to do more with the stones than just tumble-polishing them, but when I looked at lapidary equipment, it seemed like there were SO MANY different kinds of machines on the market and I wasn't sure which kind(s) I needed for what I wanted to do, or what features were needed, or how to tell what was worth the price, that I just didn't buy anything. But this little book covers it all: how you go about cutting, shaping and polishing rocks, how to use the different equipment, even which brands are reliable. There is even a great section with fantastic pictures about how to tell 'good' rock that will make beautiful polished stones, from sub-par rock that isn't worth the trouble. This little book was EXCATLY what I needed. Now I know exactly WHICH machine(s) I need!

I own 2 quality rock tumblers I've used over the years to clean modern coins I find metal detecting for recirculation. The urge to try tumbling rocks has only recently bit me. Correspondingly, I also wanted to learn a little more about lapidary arts and the related equipment. This book delivers and has a handy page in the center with formulas for various stones and finishes with both rotary and vibratory tumblers. Additionally, I couldn't get a true feel for how to properly load barrels from online resources. Hints and tips are interspersed throughout the book. I especially like the section with photos that details the differences between quality and inferior 'rough' material so that I just didn't blindly buy stones. Further chapters detail cutting, drilling, and shaping. As another reviewer said, this is also easy to read cover to cover. Since the advent of the internet, I have found many hobby books lacking. This reminds me of the old days when you got interested in something and found 'that great book' at the library or elsewhere you really liked. Highly recommended.

This book gives widely accepted information as well as the author's deviations from the norm. These suggestions are time saving or money saving. I really got a lot out of the personal notes and clarifications given in this book.Maybe there is a more recent re-print, but the edition I just received has equipment pricing that is a few years old. In this not so cheap hobby, that equates to hundreds of dollars. Not a big deal, and just slightly noteworthy.Dawn Robert

Nice little, easy readable book with very good, basic information, learned at least one thing new from it. Pleasantly worded text and good to understand instructions. Not too many pictures, but very good ones and very big illustrations.
