It's not just the tips that made sure I kept a copy of this book around, but also the way they're presented: In practical terms, with examples of where features are useful that are applicable to most developers. Of course it introduces the basics, but I suspect that aspect of the book isn't that interesting for most people buying it (almost nobody is required to use Vim!), it's mostly in tying it all together that this book excels. It will take you from a moderate to intermediate Vim user to a fluent Vim user if you follow its guidance and practice.However, it is unlikely that an advanced Vim user will find anything surprising in here. I keep this around for introducing others to vim or helping existing vim-ers gain skill; I rarely need it myself. It's got a target audience, and it's exquisitely tailored to them.

The author provides clear examples, and provides the best way to tackle an operation in Vim while also explaining why other methods would be inefficient i.e. would require more key presses, or can not be repeated using the dot command to the same effect.I learnt a proper way to avoid reaching for the key everytime, and how to quickly navigate through my buffer list.Make sure to download the example files that the book references in the examples as that will make it easier to follow the commands.Loved it!!

This is a great and necessary book for anyone who wants to use VIM for serious programming.I have used Vim for a while, but only for very basic editing. When I started programming in Python, I used Pycharm as an IDE. However, once you get more sophisticated, such GUI based IDEs suddenly become quite restrictive and even error prone. So a year later I remembered my old friend Vim, but after following the only manuals on how to set up a proper Python environment, I still missed a lot of Pycharm's features.Enter Practical Vim. This book is gold form page 1 onwards. Even the little hint to actually read the forgotten manual was a big plus. And then it got better... highly recommended for anyone who is serious about working in Vim.

The author has a mastery of Vim that is inspiring and the "practical" part of the book is literally that. Incredibly helpful with many, many solutions to minimizing keystrokes and using Vim in a very powerful way to become more productive. I've only gone through half the book so far and I can already manipulate text more quickly and more powerfully than when I use Visual Studio with Whole Tomato. Highly recommend.

Though not technically part of Zodhiates' works, this dictionary makes an excellent companion to Zodhiates' Complete Word Study Old Testament, it is a very helpful source to look up English definitions of Hebrew words. Definitions range from a couple of sentences to a page or more.Good for us non-theologians who want to understand the Bible better. Easy to use and understand. Not sure what to compare it to, but I found it much easier to just pick up and begin using than, say, Vine's. Also, I don't typically make use of a standard Bible dictionary in my personal Bible study, but this is different because as I read a text, with Zodhiates' Complete Word Study Old Testament open, I will repeatedly use this volume to understand as I go.Using a word study approach to Bible study not only helps you understand its meaning, but also causes you to ponder more what is being said.

One of the best bible word study tools on the market. I have the set of old and new testament dictionaries and word study helps. Do be tricked like me. You can do scholarly work with just the old and new testament dictionaries. It is keyed to strong's numbering system.

Just as expected when purchased. I am enjoying this. However in case it isn't made clear anywhere else (since I had to do some research to figure this out before I purchased it), you definitely will need to own a Strong's Concordance in order to use this dictionary. It is will only work in conjunction with a Strong's Concordance to look up the information with.

This book is very thick and large, WOW! I gave it five star because the definitions are explain in English; however, the word is written in both the Hebrew letter and Hebrew word, so this is a challenge for me and for that reason I'm returning the book...However, I believe it deserve 5 star because for those who know or studying Hebrew, I believe would enjoy this dictionary.

For anyone studying Hebrew, this is awesome. And I find myself just reading it for HOURS, long after I found the word I was searching for, although it provides a comprehensive word study. It's just really INTERESTING !

This has been so very helpful and really makes our bible study time a sweet time. DIG IN!!! God's Word is True!!

I had this in my library along with another of Maya's books. This library was large at that time and I simply did not have time to read through it. I ended up giving it away to a friend and a year later read Path of Practice by the same author. I fell in love with the writing and subject and had to purchase this book again. I found it to be a wonderful cookbook but more in that it introduced me to a way of life and a perspective on health that I was unaware of prior. I highly recommend this book to learn about ayurveda and begin to experience it first hand. But be warned, I have been studying Ayurveda since and this could just change your life!

I found this book to be a very good introduction to Ayurveda -- comprehensive, clear and accessible. I'm somewhat surprised at reviews that found it otherwise. It covers the fundamentals without burying the person who is new to the concepts in an overwhelming amount of intimidating detail. I have purchased several copies as gifts.Though I am adamantly not a religious person, I find much value in the spiritual and mystical readings when viewed as parables, which I think they are, and in this context gain a better understanding of the belief systems underlying the practice. I wholeheartedly concur with those who appreciated the expanded explanations of combination doshas as I believe that stopping with the three dosha types is much too simplistic and the food lists provided for each major and combination dosha types were extremely helpful.I have not remained terribly consistent in my practice, but certain recommendations have proven extremely beneficial to my overall health and sense of well being. And when I feel extremely out of balance, I return to it over and over for motivation.

I have had this book for 17 years and find that this book was so informative for me that I just had to buy one for my best friend. We are genuinely appreciative for the teachings and are learning more about life each day. As a cancer survivor, I take life very seriously. I don't have time to read quick fix no effort books. This book does not restrict the possibilities. As the title shows - A Life of Balance:

This is a good book - takes a little more effort to read as it's written from an Eastern perspective so readers may be a little more unfamiliar with some of the concepts. I LOVE the recipes! There are LOTS of them - and many are easy to make with regular ingredients. Plan to peruse this book over time. Book arrived in perfect shape.

This book is so well written. For all types and so right on with diet needs. I highly recommend this info for a desired life of balance. Love this book. You won't be disappointed. So happy!

Full of anecdotes, both personal and biographical, this book graciously stirs the parent's heart to see their child through God's eyes without guilt or pressure. It is at once reassuring and inspiring, uplifting while motivating. I listened to it on audiobook but found I needed something to highlight and save. Highly recommended!

This book is good news for parents! Instead of focusing on changing their behavior (wondering how a child of mine could do that) the author Gary Thomas directs our attention to modeling our love for Jesus, and acting like him as a parent. This is only possible when he resides within you - empowering you to take the high road as a parent. He is faithful to show you what that road looks like every time! I had the privilege of facilitating this as a Morning Grace class which is a women's Bible study group in Cornelius, NC. The fifty plus participants enjoyed this fresh approach to parenting - and gave huge sighs of relief to know that God can work through our past, present and future failures as a parent!

Enjoyed reading the book and Gary Thomas’ thoughts on how raising children helps us to be more Christ-like. If you’ve read Sacred Marriage, this is similar. A good and interesting read.

I was on the lookout for a parenting book that interwove several important Christian values I look to help raise my children with. And Thomas' book fits the bill perfectly. His personal family anecdotes were not only humorous but very relevant to what virtually all parents go through when raising children. His chapters were easy to digest and put into practice as they truly were backed with Biblical principles. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am trying my best to raise my children as best I could. This book is definitely a great tool to help any parents out there who may need some extra help. I highly recommend it.

This book challenges the notion that parenting is either a parent-centered OR a child-centered enterprise. Thomas suggests that parenting is intended to be a God centered enterprise. He introduces many the emotional and spiritual challenges that parents face and shows, through Biblical text and heart-challenging anecdotes, how a God-centered approach differs from more ego-driven approaches. Fascinating reading that forces you out of yourself and into the presence of God.

Great book to encourage your spiritual growth through parenting. This is not a ‘how to’ guide, it’s more about how you can be challenged by parenting when/if you surrender your will to God in regards to raising children.

The author challenges us to be more interested in our child’s character than his comfort! If you want to raise children with integrity, this book’s for you!

I love that this book is more about how kids help make you more sacred rather than how to be perfect parents or how to raise perfect kids!

This was a decent book on Queen Mary, but there was a LOT left out, and could have been a really terrific book. But I'll give you my secret to making this a real page-turner: read Matriarch in-tandem with James Pope-Hennessey's official royal biography, Queen Mary. By reading both of these biographies in tandem, you'll walk away with a much richer and much more thorough portrait of a woman who was so much more important to history than she is given credit.Matriarch glosses over Princess May's entire childhood, an essential "detail" that is most important to Queen Mary's adulthood and her reign. Her childhood experiences and relationships with her parents and cousins, aunts and uncles, and with the British Monarch itself, it paramount to understanding the woman that she became and to the children she bore (I hesitate to say "raised because, well, read the books). On one level, the Queen was a very complex individual; on another, she is not difficult to understand at all.By reading Matriarch alone, you may learn a few things you didn't know before, but you'll also walk away with a lot of questions. If you read the two biographies in tandem (I read up to a point in history in one book, then read up to the same point in history in the other, then switched) you'll really understand the woman herself so much more. And like I said in my review of Pope-Hennessey's biography, when you get to QM's experiences during WWII (which are extremely limited in Edwards' book) you'll wish you had Julian Fellowes' phone number on speed dial!

This is a good biography on Queen Mary, although a bit dated as some things listed have proven to be wrong by recently released documents. Here I’m referring to the Duke of Windsor and his Nazi ties. Truly, the British should revere Wallis Simpson, she saved them from what would have been a disaster of a king.Queen Mary held the royal family and the country together through two world wars, an abdication, and various crises throughout her long life. A virtual tower of strength she always put country and duty first. Described as ‘cold and hard’, basically because she kept rigid control of her emotions, publicly and privately, she was ‘taught’ how to be Queen by the great Victoria herself. Her husband, George V, freely admitted he would not have been the man or the king he was without his ‘darling May’. The royal family owes this woman a huge debt because, in my opinion, the House of Windsor could have gone the route of so many other royal dynasties after WWI, deposed and/or murdered.My hat’s off to the grand dame, Queen Mary.

After reading 17 Carnations I was eager to read more about Queen Mary and her relationship with her children. In that respect Matriarch was just the ticket. The book explores Queen Mary, but also provides considerable insight into the entire Windsor family. And Edwards’ prose as others have said is compulsively readable. Matriarch is well researched and full of tidbits and stories I had not read in other royal biographies.Why then am I giving the book only four stars? Because midway through the book I began to feel myself actively questioning Edward’s central premise-namely that Queen Mary was an outstanding if not the most outstanding Queen Britain ever had. Edwards is clearly enamored of her subject. Fair enough given the research and the time she spent writing Matriarch she’s certainly entitled to that view. However, I don’t think she’s made a strong argument for Mary holding such a lofty role.Herein lies the problem. Edwards seems to suggest that because Mary dressed well, wore jewelry well, followed court procedures, and always maintained a stiff upper lip she was an ideal queen . However, the further I got in the text the more I felt Mary was almost a slave to her position, and seemingly limited if not wholly incapable of giving her family any kind of emotional response. Mary may have believed it was noble to worry endlessly about the King while leaving the Princes and princesses to their own devices, but does that really make her outstanding. As others said the book provides you some excellent insight into Mary, but it never convinced me Mary was superior in anything but adhering to court etiquette at all costs. And to my mind that alone does not elevate her among the top Queens.Troublingly Edwards in advancing her theories seems to be utterly willing to slight every other female to elevate Mary. Queen Alexandra is blamed for every possible thing including her husband having affairs. Princess Mary is judged far beneath her mother. Even Queen Victoria is in Edward’s mind not quite as Queenly as Mary.Meanwhile, Edwards skirts over any flaw in Mary’s character. For example the silver jubilee which likely accelerated King George’s demise was invented by Mary for little reason other than to honor her own vanity. Yet, Edwards coolly justifies the ceremony and excluded Mary from the criticism she should rightly face. Likewise, Prince John occupies maybe three paragraphs in a book that spends far more than that detailing dinner his parents attended.I am not discouraging anyone from reading the book. Matriarch is an excellent book. But one does need to approach it with an awareness of Edward’s authorial quirks. And one must decide for one’s self if a live of adhering to court protocol excuses an almost paralyzed emotional response.

Cousin to both Kaiser Wilhelm and Tsar Nicholas as was her husband King George V, their situation was complicated and tenuous during World War I. Among other things, this book deals with the unsuccessful attempts of the Windsor's to bring Nicholas and Alexandra and their children to England before they were murdered by the Bolsheviks; the British handover of India; Edward VIII's abdication of the British throne; and World War II. In her 85 years Queen Mary outlived four British monarchs, including Queen Victoria and her own son King George the VI and died just weeks before her granddaughter Queen Elizabeth II, to whom she left her fabulous jewel collection, was crowned.

I have two issues with this book of postcards.First, it is very difficult to remove the postcards from the book without tearing them.Even though I was careful, I had ragged edges, and I had to trim several of thecards to a somewhat smaller size.Second, the pictures are not identified.While some are obvious, like the Statue of Liberty,others are not. I have no idea what many of them are.I bought them for www.postcrossing.com, and, for that use,they really do need to be identified.

This is a great collection of vintage New York b/w photos. I have two issues with them, though. First, none of the photo locations are identified. I use these cards for postcrossing.com and it would be nice if the location or significance of the photo were identified. Some are obvious, but others very much NOT so.Second, the binding makes it very difficult to remove cards without tearing the left-hand edge. The staples holding the set together are so close to the perforations that after the first few cards, it's impossible to flex the cards enough to get a clean tear. I finally just ripped off the covers and removed the staples so all the cards are loose.

I bought this postcard book to use for Postcrossing but liked it so much that I bought another copy for my own library. Fun and interesting pictures taken from the New York Times. Every person I have sent these cards to love them. Larger than your average size postcard and printed on sturdy stock. Postcards are easily detachable. Highly recommended.

Absolutely beautiful! Unusual views of this marvelous city

Beautiful postcard book.

Love them. They work for what I use them for. They don't say what pics are. Pics are of statue of liberty, Brooklyn bridge, empire state building and central park. Different views of each.

Classic NYC views in a tear-out book.
